Today I will be doing a Wein Vortex VI-3500 Room Ionic air purifier review, one of the most powerful ionizers on the market. This does not really come as a big surprise, since Wein is one of the pioneers in the air ionizer world. As is my typical review structure, I am first going to look at and discuss the main features of this device, move on to an extensive pros & cons section, and finish the review with a conclusion / possible recommendation.
Wein Vortex VI-3500 Room Ionic Air Purifier – Features
The Vortex VI-3500 is an air ionizer (which is a type of air purifier) that comes with some amazing features. These are:
Uses powerful negative ion technology to clean the air. Ionic air purifiers (also called ionizers) clean the air in a completely different way than your typical purifiers that use filters. An ionizer uses negative ions to clean the air. Negative ions are negatively charged particles that attach themselves to particles that are positive/neutral. All harmful particles in the air are either positive or neutral. This is why negative ions can attach themselves (like magnets) to these harmful particles and successfully remove them from the air. Vortex VI-3500 emits 3,4 trillion negative ions per second (more on this in the pros&cons section). The device covers up to 800 square feet of air cleaning.
Built-in ion-detector. This is it, as far as a control panel goes. On the device, you can find a small display screen that shows you the number of negative ions the machine is producing. This is pretty much the only way (unless you own an ion counter device) you know that the air ionizer is working properly, as it otherwise emits no sound.
Easy setup and no filters. As far as setup goes – all you need to do is place the device anywhere in the room, plug it in… and that is it. Also, air ionizers do not use any kind of filters or other parts that you would need to replace during the lifespan of the device.
Ion emitter. This is a small antenna located on the left side of the device. An ion emitter is used to draw air particles towards it, instead of waiting for these harmful particles to randomly pass by. This is why the Vortex VI-3500 can cover up to 800 square feet of air cleaning, despite its small size.
Wein Vortex VI-3500 Room Ionic Air Purifier – Pros & Cons
Now we are going to take a look at all the positive, as well as the negative sides of Wein Vortex VI-3500. I not just going to list them, but will also explain them to them because I want you to understand the logic behind each positive and negative aspect.
An enormous emission of negative ions. As a general rule of thumb, I recommend no less than 6-7 million negative ions per second for any air ionizer. Anything below that…you will see the sub-optimal effect. Wein Vortex VI-3500 emits 3,4 trillion negative ions per second, which is by far the highest number I have seen. The effectiveness of air ionizers mostly depends on the number of negative ions they can produce- and you simply can not beat 3,4 trillion at this time. This enables the device to effectively cover up to 800 square feet!
Superior cleaning capabilities. Unlike air purifiers that use filters, air ionizers can capture even the smallest particles that are 0.01 micrometers in size. In comparison, the smallest particle size that HEPA filters can capture is 0.3 microns. This means that air ionizers can clean the air of virtually all harmful particles. Negative ions are effective against dust, pollen, smoke, mold, spores, fumes, viruses, odors/smells, allergens, bacteria, and even viruses. Negative ions attach to these particles and gravity then pulls them down. Once these harmful airborne particles are on the ground they can not rise back up (consequently you can not inhale them). Then you simply vacuum or dust them away.
No maintenance cost. You have no additional costs associated with Wein Vortex VI-3500 Room Ionic Air Purifier since there are no filters or other parts that you would have to change. Your only expense is therefore the device purchase.
Health benefits due to no ozone. The biggest downside of ionizers is that the vast majority of them have ozone as a byproduct. In short: ozone irritates our lungs and causes respiratory problems. On the other hand, inhaling negative ions help with all respiratory problems – however, you have to be near the ionizer to inhale as many negative ions as possible for maximum effect. Since Wein Vortex VI-3500 produces no ozone, it is completely safe to use.
Can leave a black residue on your walls. Since an air ionizer works by releasing negative ions into the air, this combined mass of negative ions + harmful particles have to go somewhere. I mentioned that gravity pulls it down, from where you can simply vacuum or clean it. However, because air is not static and circulates around the room, you can expect some of this mass to land on your walls and not just the floor. This is the so-called “black residue” that some users experience. The dirtier the air = the more pollutants in the air = the more chance of this black residue sticking to your walls.
Here is a quick recap of this section:
Wein Vortex VI-3500 Room Ionic Air Purifier review – conclusion
The Vortex VI-3500 is a very cost-effective, yet highly efficient air purifier on the market. It is affordable, compact, and fantastic at cleaning the air. Despite its small size and compact size, it can cover spaces of up to 800 square feet. This makes it suitable for even the biggest room in your home or as a whole-home solution for smaller apartments. The device emits no noise, making it a great choice for the bedroom as well.
The fact that the Vortex VI-3500 produces no ozone is what I like the most. Because of this, you do not need to worry about the negative effects that ozone has on our bodies. If you suffer from asthma or allergies, then this air ionizer is a great choice too. Negative ions help you with that by removing all allergens from the air. At the same time, positive properties of negative ions (when inhaled) lower your histamine levels – without side effects too! Negative ions have also been shown to help treat seasonal affective disorder (depression) in some people.
The only downside of Wein Vortex VI-3500 Room Ionic Air is the black residue that appears on the walls and possibly furniture. Here you have to keep in mind that this residue is actually a large mass of all the harmful pollutants. They would otherwise still be in the air – if you can not see them, it does not mean that they are not there. The bottom line is that these particles are better off on your walls than in your lungs. Besides, you can always put a piece of transparent foil on the wall closest to the ionizer. This will solve this small problem.
We hope you enjoyed my Wein Vortex VI-3500 Room Ionic Air Purifier Review. This is probably one of the best overall air ionizers that you can get on the market today, definitely worth every dollar. It is surprisingly cheap too if compared with other air purifiers that offer similar performance.
