Ivation Ozone Generator Review – The Best Ionized Air Purifier 2024

Ivation Ozone Generator Review

In this post, I am going to be reviewing the Ivation Ozone Generator Air Purifier, Ionizer & Deodorizer. Despite the long name, this device is (in essence) an ozone generator with some added functions. That being said, you do have to primarily look at this device as an ozone generator (sometimes also called Ozonator).

The structure of this review will be the same as it is for all my product reviews. In the first section, I am going to go over some of the main features of the device, followed by a detailed analysis of the pros and cons. I will end the review with a conclusion and final verdict for the Ivation Ozone Generator Air Purifier.

This device is an ozone generator and an air ionizer at the same time. This is important information since many people confuse these two (very different) types of air purifiers quite often. If you want a detailed explanation, I have written about the differences between an ozone generator and an air ionizer in this post.

Features – Ivation Ozone Machine

Ivation Ozone Generator Air Purifier comes packed with some pretty unique features that many ozone generators of the same price range do not have. The main features of this ozone machine are:

Added negative ion generator.  In addition to an already powerful ozone generator, you also get an extra air ionizer function. This means that the device can also release negative ions into the air. Negative ions are very powerful at air cleaning because they can remove even the smallest harmful particles.

Ozone output of 360 mg/hr.  Ivation generator air purifier comes with 3000mg of ozone production and 360 mg/hr of ozone output. Ozone output is usually measured in g/hr or lb/day, and it indicates how much ozone (mass) is produced in a selected timeframe. Ozone production, on the other hand, measures the ratio of feed gas to the number of produced ozone. A decrease in feed-gas flow leads to an increase in ozone production and vice versa. Do not worry so much about ozone production, the key element of comparison between ozone generators is mainly ozone output. If I translate this information into more simple language: this machine is powerful enough for room coverage of up to 3,500 square feet.

Adjustable control panel with two knobs. The Ivation generator air purifier has two distinct knobs, one on the left side and one on the right side. The left one controls the fan speed of ozone production, and the right one controls the negative ion generator. The important thing to notice here is that the ionizer function is independent of the ozone function. This means that you can have it turned on pretty much all the time, even if you are not using the ozone function.

I have grouped up all other technical specifications in the picture below.

Quick Review Of Ivation ozone generator

The Ivation Ozone Generator is an effective air purifier that uses negative ions to cleanse and refresh spaces up to 3,500 sq/ft.

It helps to improve air quality by reducing dust, allergens, and other irritants and is especially useful for removing odors caused by tobacco, food, pets, paint, mold, and mildew.

The generator has a durable and attractive design, with an elegant cherry wood exterior and a stainless steel cabinet that is built to last.

It also has the added benefit of creating an invigorating, natural smell that can help to re-energize and improve your mood. This is a great device for use in homes, apartments, or offices.

Pros and cons

In this section, I will go over the benefits and drawbacks of the Ivation Ozone Generator Air Purifier, Ionizer, and deodorizer. I will be elaborating on each pro and con in order for you to get a better overall understanding of this ozone machine.

Pros

Two-stage filtration system It is not very often that you see a powerful negative ion generator with an added ionization function. The added air ionizer (also called a negative ion generator) is great here because it is effective against many more air pollutants than an ozone generator. While an ozone generator specializes mostly in odors/smells, mildew & mold, an air ionizer is also effective against particulate matter, bacteria, viruses, dust, pollen, and even the smallest organisms that are as small as 0.01 micrometers. What is also great is that both of these can be independently run.

Good ozone output.  Ivation Ozone Generator Air Purifier produces 360 mg/h of ozone, which is considered to be a sign of a powerful and quality ozone generator. Around 350 mg/h of ozone is absolutely great for any home/commercial ozone generator (which is what this device is). Some ozonators can go up to 10.000 mg/h, but these are industrial ozone generators, which are used for big projects and huge spaces. For a normal home without any serious odor issues, 360 mg/h is great!

Great and fast at removing odors and mold. Many users and I experienced fast removal of odors, smells, mold, and mildew. This is due to the combination of high ozone output and negative ions (if you choose to let them run simultaneously). On high settings, you can expect to see results as fast as 30 minutes after turning on the device. On maximum settings, you can expect a full cleaning cycle to be over in as little as 2 hours, which is really fast for an ozone generator. Even the lowest setting is surprisingly powerful.

Portability in ease of use. The Ivation Ozone generator is not heavy at all (12 lbs) and is small enough to be easily moved from room to room. This small size also means that it does not take up a lot of space, making it very convenient to put pretty much anywhere you want to.

Cons

Not very durable.  While the average ozone generator lasts about 3 years, you can expect Ivation to last you up to maybe 2 years. Quite a few users report their unit dying at around the 1-year mark, which is not that long, to be honest. In case yours happens to break too fast, it could be a hassle to get through to customer service as well, which is another downside.

No information about negative ion emission.  The most important information you can have about air ionizers is how many negative ions they emit. This is called negative ion emission, and the bigger the number, the more effective the ionizing function is. Since Ivation Ozone Generator Air Purifier comes with a built-in air ionizer feature, I expected to see a number regarding the number of negative ions it releases.

This number is nowhere to be found, which usually (unfortunately) means that it is a low number. While the ionizer function on this device does work (fewer allergens, dust, and smoke in the air), there is no way to determine how effective it is, and what is the room coverage for the negative ion generator component specifically.

A negative ion generator releases ozone, which is a huge lung irritant. A negative side effect of most air ionizers is that they release ozone as a byproduct. This means that even if you deactivate the ozone-generating function and have only the negative ion generator turned on, you will still get some ozone in the air. This happens because of the way negative ions are created. Why is this such a big deal? Because ozone affects our respiratory system very negatively. If you want more details on this specific issue, I have written a whole blog post which can be found here.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Two-stage filtration system
  • Good ozone output
  • Effective at removing most other air pollutants as well
  • Great and fast at removing odors and mold
  • Portable and easy to use
Cons
  • Kind of short life span
  • No information about negative ion emission
  • Negative ion generator produces extra ozone

Maintenance – Ozone Machine

The maintenance process of the Ivation ozone generator is a little bit more advanced than the common ozone generator. Here is what you can expect to do to maintain this ozone machine:

  1. The ozone plate should be cleaned about once a month. This is quite above the average cleaning frequency, which is only once per 2-3 months. You just remove the plate and can wash it with ammonia or just a normal detergent. After that, you just need to rinse it with water and let it dry off completely before putting it back into the device. If you skip this step, you can expect the unit to work below optimal capacity.
  2. The ionizer (negative ion generator) needs to be cleaned separately. You simply use a cotton swab, dipped in alcohol, and move it around the needlepoint. This way you remove any dust that will gather over time and limit the number of negative ions released.
  3. This unit also comes with a fan, which you have to check weekly for dust. You use a cloth or vacuum to simply remove the accumulated fan dust.

You get full maintenance instructions with the unit itself, I just wanted to point out what it looked like and what you can expect from this ozone machine.

Ivation Ozone Generator Air Purifier, Ionizer & Deodorizer Review- Conclusion

Ivation ozone generator is a powerful commercial air purifier, good enough for most homes. I would recommend this device mainly if you have strong odors/smells, mildew, or mold issues that you want to get rid of. However, the extra negative ion generator function provides even more flexibility, making this ozone generator effective at removing other air pollutants besides odors, mildew, and mold.

It covers large areas of up to 3500 square feet, although the biggest effect will be in the room where it is located. Since this is an ozone generator, after all, I would recommend using it in rooms that are not usually occupied. You can even move it from room to room due to its portable size and weight. In any case, make sure that no one is in the room while the device is running! This is due to the harmful effects of ozone on humans.

While the room coverage is big, only one unit is probably not enough for the whole 3500 square feet. One 360 mg/h unit can fully clean a single large room but is simply not enough for the whole house. The people over at National Ozone Association prepared a good explanation, which you can read here. Can it cover the whole 3500 sq. ft. ? Yes. It is equally as effective for the whole area? No. You would need 2 or even 3 units to cover the whole house with the same effectiveness. However, due to the negative effects of ozone, I would go with only 1 unit anyway – just move it around different rooms depending on your needs.

I will not recommend the Ivation Ozone Generator (or any ozone generator) if you have any respiratory issues such as allergies or asthma. This is because you would be more susceptible to ozone and would experience its harmful effects even sooner than usual. The same goes for air ionizers. In this case, a HEPA filter with a good activated filter would be a much better solution. For this purpose, I have prepared a list of the best 5 air purifiers under $50, which would be a better fit. This applies mostly if you wanted to use this device in occupied rooms, such as a kitchen or living room.
